A Beautiful You, Today & Every Day
What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a medical-grade solution that is used to remove the outer layers of damaged skin to promote fresh cells. They are a fantastic treatment for acne and acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, irregular skin pigmentation, scaly patches, rough skin, sun damage and scarring.
At Capital Aesthetics in Ottawa, we use AlumierMD, a skincare brand dedicated to delivering therapeutic outcomes for patients presenting an array of skin conditions and concerns through the latest advancements and cleanest formulations.

Chemical Peel Benefits
Chemical peels are great for all skin types and will greatly improve the texture of the skin, tone and clarity. As we age, our cell renewal process slows down. Chemical peels help speed up the process and break down old skin cell bonds in the epidermis to reveal younger, glowier, healthier-looking skin!
We offer a series of AlumierMD chemical peels created to target specific skin concerns.
- BHA 20 Chemical Peel is best suited for acne-prone, congested and oily skin.
- Renew 30 Chemical Peel is great for those who have sensitive skin prone to redness.
- AHA Duo Chemical Peel targets aging skin, acne scars and discolouration from sun damage.
- Glow Peel is best suited for those with acne, acne scars as well as sun damage.
- Power Glow Peel is a stronger and more potent version of the Glow Peel (only offered from September through May).

The Treatment Process
There are three main steps in the treatment process of getting a chemical peel: prepping the skin, applying the peel, and post-peel care. All our chemical peels are performed by a medically trained aesthetician.
- Prepping the skin involves cleansing it and removing any makeup or oils. This ensures that the peel can penetrate evenly and deeply into the skin.
- Applying the peel involves using a brush or pad to apply the solution evenly to the skin. The peeling process usually takes about 10 minutes.
- Post-peel care involves cleansing the skin again and applying a moisturizer. It is important to avoid sun exposure and to use sunscreen when going outside. Chemical peels can make the skin more sensitive to the sun.
It is recommended to get a chemical peel every four to six weeks. The number of peels needed depends on the condition of the skin and the desired results.

While chemical peels are safe to do during the summer, it’s important to keep in mind that this treatment causes skin sensitivity which may be exacerbated by the sun. This means that, for best results, you should avoid spending time in the sun and use broad-spectrum SPF 30. If you’re considering a chemical peel during the summer months, it’s important to talk to our medical aesthetician to determine if this is the best course of action for your skin.
Chemical peels can work on sensitive skin. A test patch can be done first to ensure that you do not have an adverse reaction to the peel. Our medical aesthetician will also apply a gentle moisturizer to help soothe your skin post-treatment.
We offer a series of medical-grade AlumierMD peels. We encourage you to book a consultation with our medical aesthetician, who will customize a treatment plan according to your skin and concerns.

The recovery time from a chemical peel depends on the type of peel, depth, and intensity. Peels that target your outermost layer of skin typically have minimal downtime, with mild peeling and redness that lasts a few days. It’s important to follow post-treatment instructions and protect your skin from sun exposure for optimal healing.
The cost of chemical peels can vary depending on various factors, like the type of peel. Speak with our experts at Capital Aesthetics for the most accurate and up-to-date pricing information based on your individual needs.
