What is PRP Hair Restoration?
PRP therapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses the patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated mixture of platelets and other proteins that are naturally present in our blood. It is an effective treatment for hair restoration and has shown promising results in clinical trials for patients that suffer from mild to moderate hair thinning and hair loss.
During the procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and then centrifuged to isolate the platelets. These platelets are then injected into the scalp where they help to stimulate and begin the process of new hair growth.

Benefits of PRP For Hair Restoration
PRP helps increase existing hair growth and also promotes new hair growth through reduced inflammation. Once inflammation is reduced, it drastically improves the level of blood circulation in the scalp. It is a safe procedure with very few side effects such as temporary pain or swelling in the treated area.
PRP also helps to thicken and strengthen hair follicles, which leads to decreased hair fall. PRP is a great treatment method to improve overall scalp health which is the root cause of healthy hair.

The Treatment Process
We can begin the treatment process for PRP therapy by first drawing your blood. Our highly trained cosmetic nurse will collect a sample of your blood and then spin it in a centrifuge to extract the platelets.
A numbing agent is injected into the treatment area to eliminate discomfort during the procedure. Once the platelets are ready, they will be injected into your scalp.
The treatment typically takes around 30 minutes to complete. You may experience some minor discomfort during the injection, but this should dissipate shortly afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, PRP is a safe and effective treatment approved by Health Canada. It is derived from the patient’s own blood, so there is no risk of adverse reactions.
Generally, we advise you to stop taking any blood thinners or aspirin a few days before the procedure. Please avoid caffeine and alcohol in the hours leading up to the treatment and also eat something before you arrive. Please feel free to also wash your hair the day before your appointment.
After a PRP hair treatment session, it is important to avoid any excessive heat or sun exposure. This means avoiding activities such as sunbathing, using a sun bed, or spending time in a hot tub. It is also important to avoid vigorous exercise for at least 24 hours after the treatment.
We also advise that patients avoid shampooing their hair for the first 12-24 hours after the treatment. Shampooing too soon after the treatment can remove the platelets from the scalp and reduce the effectiveness of the treatment. We also recommended that patients avoid styling their hair for the first 12-24 hours after the treatment. This includes using hair dryers, curling irons, and straightening irons.
PRP therapy may be a good option for patients who are experiencing hair loss or thinning hair. It is also a good choice for patients who do not want to undergo surgery or who are not eligible for surgery.
